Jesse Alton Stoner, 87, of North Vernon, passed away on April 22, 2024, at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born April 5, 1937, in Jennings County, he was the son of the late James and Maggie (Guinn) Stoner. He married Betty Lou (Nelson) Stoner on November 10, 1955, in North Vernon; she preceded him in death on October 9, 2019.
Jesse was a graduate of Vernon High School and retired from Cummins Engine Company after 20 plus years in engineering and maintenance. He had previously worked as a telegraph railroad operator, teacher at Ivy Tech College, and a car lot manager. Jesse was also a licensed Realtor and plumber. He was a member of the Apostolic Church in North Vernon, Restoration Christian Center where he preached and was a teacher and held home Bible Study classes. He enjoyed ceramics, yard work, gardening, making his own ceramic molds and teaching bible studies.
Survivors include his son, Marcus Stoner of North Vernon; daughters, Stephanie Stoner, and Cheryl (Quinn) Payne, both of North Vernon; brother, Norman “Joe” (Carolyn) Stoner of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Chad (Christy) Caldwell, Scott Stoner, Dustin (Christina) Stoner, Myranda Stoner, and Sarah (Chris) Stokes; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Stoner, North Stokes, Desmond Stokes, Henry Stokes and Dallas Stokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, Hershel, Marvin, and Marshall Stoner.
A graveside service for Jesse will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with the Rev. Jim Teller officiating. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon were entrusted to the care of these arrangements.
Memorials in honor of Jesse may be made through the funeral home to Crossroad Community Church or Life Change Church in Greenwood.
